அறத்துப்பால் – துறவற இயல்–அறன் வலியுறுத்தல் (THE MIGHT OF VIRTUE)
மான அருங்கலம் நீக்கி இரவென்னும்
ஈன இளிவினால் வாழ்வேன்மன் - ஈனத்தால்
ஊட்டியக் கண்ணும் உறுதிசேர்ந்து இவ்வுடம்பு
நீட்டித்து நிற்கும் எனின்.
நான் இழிவினால் இவ்வுடம்பை ஊட்டிய விடத்தும் நெடுங்காலம் நில்லாது, ஆதலால் நான் மானம் என்னும் அணியை நீக்கி இரந்து வாழ்வதில்லை.
பொருள்:
இழிவான காரியத்தைச் செய்து உணவு ஊட்டுவதனாலும் உறுதியுடன் கூடி இவ்வுடம்பு நீண்ட நாள் நிலைத்திருக்கும் என்பது உண்மையானால் மானம் என்னும் சிறந்த அணிநலனைக் களைந்தெறிந்து விட்டு உயிர்வாழ்வேன் (எப்படி ஊட்டினாலும் இந்த உடம்பு அழியக் கூடியதே).
Explanation:
Why should man maintain the perishable hody by dishonourable begg'ing' ?
Parting with honour's jewel I might still consent to live a suppliant's life of shame, if when maintained by such disgrace, this body could abide in strength and last for length of days.

பாம்பன் பாலம் (Pamban Bridge)
இது இந்தியாவின் முதல் கடல் பாலம் ஆகும்.
இந்தியாவின் இரண்டாவது மிக நீளமான கடல் பாலம் (முதலில்பாந்திரா-வொர்லி கடற்பாலம்) ஆகும்.
ஒவ்வொரு மாதமும் கிட்டத்தட்ட 10 கப்பல்கள் இப்பாலத்தின் வழியாகச் செல்கின்றன.
இதன் கட்டுமானம் 18 மாதங்களில் முடிக்கப்பட்டு 1914 ஆம் ஆண்டு திறந்து வைக்கப்பட்டது. இப்பாலத்தின் கீழே கப்பல்கள் செல்வதற்கு ஏதுவாக பாலத்தின் நடுப்பகுதியை உயரத் தூக்குவதற்கு ஏற்றவாறு வடிவமைத்துள்ளனர்.
பாம்பன் பாலம் உலகின் மிகவும் துருப்பிடிக்கத்தக்க பகுதியில் (ஐக்கிய அமெரிக்காவின் மயாமிக்கு அடுத்தபடியாக) அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
இப்பகுதி, கடல் கொந்தளிப்பு அடிக்கடி ஏற்படும் பகுதியுமாகும்.1964 ல் நிகழ்ந்த தனுஷ்கோடி புயலில் இப்பாலத்திற்கு எவ்வித சேதமும் ஏற்படவில்லை.
