அறத்துப்பால் – துறவற இயல்–தூய் தன்மை (The essential impurity (of the human frame)) கழிந்தார் இடுதலை கண்டார்நெஞ் சுட்கக் குழிந்தாழ்ந்த கண்ணவாய்த் தோன்றி - ஒழிந்தாரைப் போற்றி நெறிநின்மின் இற்றிதன் பண்பென்று சாற்றுங்கொல் சாலச் சிரித்து. உடல்தூயதன்று, ஆதலின் தூய்மையாகிய வீட்டுநெறியில் நிற்க வேண்டும். பொருள்: இறந்தவர்களுடைய, சுடுகாட்டில், எரிக்கப்பட்ட தலைகள், பார்த்தவர் மனம் அஞ்சுமாறு, பள்ளமாய் ஆழ்ந்திருக்கின்ற கண்களையுடையனவாகத் தோன்றி, இறவாதிருக்கும் மற்றவரைப் பார்த்து, ஏளனமாக, மிகவும் சிரித்து, 'இவ்வுடம்பின் தன்மை இப்படிப்பட்டது! எனவே அறத்தைப் போற்றி நன்னெறியில் நில்லுங்கள்!' என்று கூறும் போலும்! Explanation: The eyeless skulls teach. The skulls of the dead, at the sight of which the gazer fears, with deep cavernous eyes appear, and grinning say to those who still survive, ' Guard well! In virtue's path stand fast. This is the body's grace and worth’.

பத்மசிறீ (பத்மஸ்ரீ) என்பது இந்திய அரசால் வழங்கப்படும் நாட்டின் நான்காவது உயரிய குடியியல் விருது. கலை,கல்வி,தொழில்,இலக்கியம்,அறிவியல்,விளையாட்டு,சமூக சேவை மற்றும் பொதுவாழ்வில் சிறப்பாக பங்களித்த குடிமக்களுக்கு பதக்கம் ஒன்றும் பாராட்டிதழ் ஒன்றும் கொடுக்கப்படுகிறது. இது முதன் முதலில் ஜனவரி 2, 1954 ஆம் ஆண்டில் இந்தியக் குடியரசுத் தலைவரால் ஏற்படுத்தப்பட்டது. பாரத ரத்னா,பத்ம விபூசன்,பத்ம பூசன் விருதுகளுக்கு அடுத்தபடியாக நான்காவது வரிசையில் அமைந்துள்ளது. 2012 வரை, 2497 நபருக்கு இந்த விருதுகள் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளன Padma Shri Award Winners 2013: 81 people awarded Padma Shri Award 2013. Padma Awards, the country’s highest civilian awards, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The awards are given in all disciplines/ fields of activities, viz. art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year. The awards are conferred by the President of India at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan sometime around March/ April. This year the President has approved 130 awards including 13 in the category of Foreigners/ NRIs/ PIOs. These comprise 6 Padma Vibhushan, 43 Padma Bhushan and 81 Padma Shri awards. There are 17 ladies among the awardees.
